I love finding simple ways to make a meal seem a little “extra”. We eat so many meals at home, its nice to change things up a bit. A few years ago I fried up some goat cheese for a big salad for Christmas Dinner. t seemed like an appropriate time to fry cheese and enjoy the “extra-ness”. I won’t say it was the BEST part of the meal, but people actually ate the salad so take that as you will! But sometime a regular old Thursday needs a little extra too. Just not Christmas dinner extra, know what I mean?
So I pulled out my handy dandy air fryer! What better way to bring extraness to a Thursday?!? Simple, healthier than deep fried cheese, and just plain yummy! The trick is to freeze the cheese balls for about 30 minutes before dredging them, and then letting them cool in the fryer rack before trying to move them.
Throw these babies on a salad, on a bowl of pasta or zoodles, or just pop them into your mouth! Your Thursday will thank you!
Air Fryer Goat Cheese Fritters
- 4 ounces goat cheese
- 2 tbsp flour
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup panko bread crumbs
- 1 tbsp rosemary finely chopped
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes or more if you want more heat
- Cooking spray
- Divide goat cheese into 8 pieces, and roll them into balls. Place on a plate or tray and stick in the freezer for 30 minutes.
- Preheat air fryer at 400° for 4 minutes.
- Place the flour, whisked egg, and panko in 3 separate bowls. Add rosemary, salt, and red pepper flakes to the panko crumbs.
- First lightly coat the balls in flour, dusting off any excess. Coat with the egg wash, then cover in panko crumbs.
- Once the fryer is preheated, spray the basket with cooking spray (I use avocado oil in a Misto sprayer)
- Place the panko-crusted goat cheese in the fryer basket and cook at 400° for 5-7 minutes until golden brown.
- The cheese will be super melty when they first come out, making them hard to remove from the basket. Set the basket on a kitchen towel and let the fritters cool down a bit before removing them gently with a fork.
